Sample course descriptions are below.
Strategic Reading Skills
We at ASPD subscribe to the philosophy that good readers do the things poor readers do not.
ASPD offers a range of courses focusing on improving strategic reading skills. Participants learn to use strategies good readers apply to effectively gain meaning from print. A wide range of courses can be developed for those whose reading is impaired due to a lack of English as well as for those who simply suffer from the lack of a quality K-12 education.
ASPD also has access to a wide variety of web-based resources and courses, as well.
Basic Math/Pre-Algebra
We recognize that workers suffer from math-phobia, poor K-12 math instruction, or both! Regardless, limited mathematics skills set up barriers to their quality and success as well as that of the institution.
ASPD mathematics courses will help your workforce develop the skills and confidence needed for success whether your workers need increased competence and confidence in the workplace or desire to continue into college level math.
ASPD basic math courses focus on pre-algebra skills needed to aid workers in developing a strong foundation in basic math concepts to prepare them for college level mathematics. Our courses are based on the 2010 Common Core State Standards being adopted across the country to improve college and career readiness. Content focuses on aiding pariticpants in becoming mathematically literate: that is, able to think and communicate ideas mathematically.
Basic Writing Skills
ASPD writing courses are designed to aid participants in expressing their ideas in an organized, clear manner. ASPD writing courses employ reserach-based best practices in the teaching of writing and aim to prepare participants for success on college level entrance exams.
