Students' WRITING SAMPLES
DIRECTIONS:
- Review the WIDA Writing Rubric to develop an understanding of the typical ways emergent bilinguals demonstrate their understanding of the English language at each level
- Assess the writing samples below to determine the Level of English Development (ELD) for each feature of academic English. Each dimension of language may have a different level.

- Determine two supports for each student which you could provide to help the student express their knowledge more effectively.
- Consider the level of ELD
- Consider the grade level
- Consider how the student is demonstrating success within each of the three dimensions
- Consider the natural next steps (based on the WIDA Writing Rubric, and the WIDA Performance Level Descriptors for that grade level)
